The 18 Rules of Happiness by Karl Moore

How many of us can truly find happiness? This book will reawaken you to happiness in life. We are all on a quest to be happy. When was the last time you learned to be happy? The book presents 18 simple rules to attain happiness

Rule #1: Stop Feeling Sorry for Yourself -> The situation won’t improve if you feel sorry for yourself

Rule #2: Be Grateful -> Don’t be grateful for stuff only when you no longer have them. Count your blessings every day

Rule #3: Say Yes More -> Saying ‘No’ holds us back in life. We say ‘No’ when something can’t meet our expectations or when we are disappointed. Go with the flow and say ‘yes’. Say ‘yes’ when you are invited to social events

Rule #4: Follow your Bliss -> If you are not doing something you like, you need to follow your bliss. Money is not bliss. Find your bliss and what you like doing

Rule #5: Learn to Let Go -> Emotions are natural but they need to be controlled as well. You are not your emotions. Learn the art of releasing. Ask whether you can let something go

Rule #6: Do Random Acts of Kindness -> The fact is that helping others make us happier. The more you give, the more you receive. Perform random acts of kindness without expecting anything in return. Someone else might ‘pay it forward’. You can choose to be a volunteer etc

Rule #7: Happiness is Only Ever Now -> Learn to be happy now. For example, you can start singing on the way to work in the car. Life is transient and the time that will always be there is the present. Make the decision to be happy. What you can change and control is the present

Rule #8: Experience, Don’t Hoard! -> Happiness created by material goods only brings temporary happiness. Investing in experiences brings lasting happiness. Indulge in a few mini-adventures of your own. Learn a new language, do something different

Rule #9: Appreciate both sides of the coin -> To experience happiness, you must experience sadness. It’s a must. Do not keep aiming to drive sadness out of your life. You need to experience the duality of life. Learn to appreciate the other side of life

Rule #10: Be More Social -> Make more friends. Be proactive about it. Join online groups that share common interests. Make the effort. Don’t be negative and learn to radiate warmth instead. Make the move to connect. If the other party doesn’t bother, it’s their loss. Expand your social circle as much as you can

Rule #11: Love More! -> Life is about happiness and freedom. The more you give love, the happier you will become. This is controllable and you can always control how much love to give. Love the whole world more. Love might be all you need

Rule #12: Have a Dream -> Have a vision and a goal in life. They brighten up your life in many ways. Write them down and keep it in a safe place

Rule #13: Intention Sets Direction -> The outcome you expect is often the one you will get. Therefore, one should always look on the bright side of life. If you have that, you will choose to ignore the negative aspects of the event. Set a clear direction

Rule #14: Enjoy Simple Pleasures -> Learn to appreciate the small kinds rather than criticize them. It is an attitude to appreciate beauty around us. Happiness can be simple

Rule #15: Accept What Is -> Do not harbor pent-up anger and resentment. Accept the situation as it is first, and then try to change it. If you do not accept the situation, it will lead to more stress

Rule #16: Exercise and Eat Well -> If you do this both, it can lead to a huge increase in happiness levels. Learn to walk about your neighborhood. Exercise leads to increased levels of serotonin, melatonin and adrenaline. It might in the long while lead to increased self-esteem.  Increase your consumption of Omega 3

Rule #17: Zoom Out and Don’t Sweat -> We all have different priorities in life. Don’t sweat on the small stuff. Take a step back and realize what your priorities in life are

Rule #18: Laugh, Dance and Smile! ->True happiness comes from the inside. Surround yourself with happiness. Get dancing, watch comedies, listen to happy music etc. Laugh at the silly problems that you have
